Monoscopic vs Stereoscopic content

In my latest two workshops, I had introduced students to the concepts behind Stereoscopy and Stereoscopic devices, which is why I wanted to make a post illustrating the difference between monoscopic and stereoscopic content in relation to immersive technologies.

Monoscopic images are basically single images taken/or generated from a single point of view and a single lens.

Stereoscopic images are basically two monoscopic images taken from slightly different points and angles and placed next to or on top of each other.

So why is this relevant regarding immersive technologies? Well, the answer to this question has to do with the illusion of immersion itself, and how sight and depth perception work.

Most humans are not aware that although monoscopic content has become the standard way to produce and disseminate visual content
